Bonsai Re-potting for Beginners in Lama
For each bonsai tree, eventually comes a time when its root system has taken all the space in the pot, limiting additional development required to support the growing plant. To deal with this dilemma, a process of bonsai repotting and root pruning should be carried out. It allow the tree to grow healthy and vigorously for a long time and will reorganize the root system. Tricks in the next post will provide you with an overview on the best way to do bonsai repotting by yourself.
First, you have to test whether it's already the time for repotting that is bonsai. This has to be done annually during early springtime, when the tree continues to be in dormancy. Gently ease the tree out of its own pot and analyze the rootball. It is already the time for bonsai repotting to be implemented should you see long roots encircling the interior side of the pot or the rootball.
Prepare a fresh pot, where the tree will probably be put, or clean the old one. Cover the drainage holes using a plastic mesh, fixing it with a part of wire. Then put a layer of grit on the underside of the pot, of earth, on which the tree will likely be planted a layer on top of it, after which to permit emptying.

When the pot is ready, another part of the bonsai repotting process is to displace the old land in the rootball, rather using chopsticks. Then prune the longest roots with a sharp pair of scissors or shears. Also search for almost any roots that are dead, rotting, injured or infected, and remove them too to avoid spreading root rot. Aim to remove up to 1/3 of general root mass.
Eventually set the tree in the pot that is prepared and tie it with the wire that is anchorage, to be sure that it won't be rocked by wind in the forthcoming weeks, when its roots are not yet fully regenerated. Fill the rest of the pot with fresh soil, ensuring there are no air pockets. Water the compost completely, to help it settle.
With the bonsai repotting operation entire, the tree will now need about six weeks for regeneration. After that, its root system will undoubtedly have the ability to develop growing more fine feeder roots in a more compact rootball, than what could be performed with unpruned roots. This can translate into more essential nutrients feeding your precious plant, and in effect its improved health, vibrancy as well as your enjoyment of its beauty.
