Bonsai Repotting for Beginners in Mount Wolf
For each bonsai tree, eventually comes a time when its root system has taken all the space in the pot, restricting further development needed to support the growing plant. An operation of bonsai repotting and root pruning should be completed to deal with this problem. It'll reorganize the root system and enable the tree to grow healthy and vigorously for several years. Tricks in the next post will provide you with an overview about how to do bonsai repotting by yourself.
First, you must check whether it is already the time for repotting that is bonsai. When the tree continues to be in dormancy, this needs to be done annually during early springtime. Gently ease the tree from its own pot and examine the rootball. Should you see long roots encircling the rootball or the interior side of the pot, it's already the time for bonsai repotting to be carried out.
Prepare a fresh pot, in which the tree will be put, or clean the old one. Cover the drainage holes using a plastic mesh, fastening it using a piece of wire. Then place a layer of grit on the bottom of the pot, then, and to enable draining of earth, where the tree will be put a layer on top of it.

The following part of the bonsai repotting procedure is to displace the old soil from your rootball, preferably using chopsticks when the pot is prepared. Prune the longest roots using a sharp pair of scissors or shears. Also search for almost any wounded, dead, decaying or infected roots, and remove them too to avoid distributing root rot. Aim to remove up to 1/3 of general root mass.
Eventually put the tree inside the pot that is prepared and tie it with the wire that is anchorage, to ensure that it won't be rocked by wind in the coming weeks, when its roots are not yet completely regenerated. Fill the rest of the pot with fresh soil, ensuring that there are no air pockets. Water the compost completely, to help it settle.
The tree will now need about six weeks for regeneration with the bonsai repotting operation complete. After that, its root system is going to be able to develop freely, growing more fine feeder roots in a more compact rootball, than what might be achieved with roots that are unpruned. This will translate into more essential nutrients feeding your beloved plant, and in effect its improved health, vibrancy and your enjoyment of its attractiveness.
