Bonsai Re-potting for Beginners in Lanark

For each bonsai tree, eventually comes a time when its root system has taken all the space in the pot, limiting additional development needed to support the growing plant. An operation of root pruning and bonsai repotting must be completed to address this issue. It permit the tree to grow healthy and vigorously for several years and will reorganize the root system. Tricks in the next post will give you an overview about how to do bonsai repotting by yourself.

First, you must test whether it's already the time for repotting that is bonsai. This must be done every year during early spring, when the tree is still in dormancy. Gradually ease the tree out of its pot and examine the rootball. Should you see long roots encircling the rootball or the inner side of the pot, it's already the time for bonsai repotting to be executed.
Prepare a fresh pot, when the tree will soon be put, or clean the old one. Cover with a plastic mesh, securing it using a piece of wire. Then place a layer of grit on the base of the pot, then, and to allow draining of ground, where the tree will probably be planted a layer on top of it.

When the pot is ready, the following step in the bonsai repotting process will be to displace the old land in the rootball, preferably using chopsticks. Prune the longest roots with a sharp pair of shears or scissors. Also search for any roots that are decaying, dead, wounded or infected, and remove them too to refrain from dispersing root rot. Plan to remove up to 1/3 of general mass. that is root

Finally place the tree inside the prepared pot and tie it with the anchorage wire, to ensure that it will not be rocked by wind in the forthcoming weeks, when its roots are not yet fully regenerated. Fill the rest of the pot with fresh soil, ensuring there are no air pockets. Water the compost thoroughly, to help it settle.

With the bonsai repotting operation entire, the tree will need about six weeks for regeneration. After that, its root system will likely be able to grow growing fine feeder roots in a more compact rootball, than what could be performed with unpruned roots. This will definitely translate into more essential nutrients feeding your cherished plant, and in effect its improved health, vibrancy and your enjoyment of its attractiveness.
